Datahive360 Platform & Features
What is a data source?
A data source is the location where data is being used from. Within the Datahive360 platform, 1 or more data sources can be combined in a data model for unification pruposes and then send to or used in a data destination of your choosing.
Data sources can be virtually any analytics, advertising/marketing, CRM , 1st party or 3rd party database you work with. As long as the platform or database you wish to use as a data source supports API connections or the (automated) export of data to a CSV or XML file, you are able to use that platform or database as a data source in Datahive360. Even if there is no plau-and-play data connector available yet for the platform or database you wish to connect to, you can most likely use the generic ‘external data connector’ to automatically schedule the retrieval of data.
What is a data destination?
A data destination is the location where data is send to. Within the Datahive360 platform, data destinations include data storage destinations like a cloud database, but also platforms and services like a data visualization tool, spreadsheet tools and even analytics and advertising platforms. Data destinations can be virtually any analytics, advertising/marketing, CRM , 1st party or 3rd party database you work with. As long as the platform or database you wish to use as a data destination supports API connections for the automated import of data. Datahive360 offers prebuilt data connectors for commonly used data destinations.
By default, most of the data being processed by Datahive360 is stored in the data storage location linked to your Datahive360 subscription. In most cases this will be a cloud storage service under management by Datahive, for which the data connector is setup automatically. For high-end licenses, Datahive offers the opportunity to store your data in a self-managed database environment, e.g. an existing data warehouse or data lake controlled by your organization.
Please note that for using the unified data from Datahive360 in data visualization tools like Google Data Studio, Tableau or Qlikview a data connector is not required. Instead, you can point directly to the cloud database linked to your Datahive360 account to create the insightful dashboards and reports you’re looking for.
What is a data model?
A data model is an abstract model that organizes elements of data and standardizes how they relate to one another. Data models are used to define the logic of the so-called ‘ETL’ process, which stands for Extract, Transform and Load. In Datahive360, a data model consists of 1+ data source(s), data transformation logic to structure the data and 1+ data destination(s). You can create simple data models with just 1 data connector and 1 data destination, without transforming the data, or more complex models with multiple data connectors, data transformation logic and multiple data destinations. All without coding. For popular use cases you can even use our prebuilt data model templates.
What is an API connector or data connector?
An API connector or data connector is a piece of software that allows you to extract data from a data source or send data to a data destination programmatically, using an Application Programming Interface (API). Datahive360 comes with a variety of business-ready, plug-and-play API connectors for commonly used analytics, advertising, CRM and other data sources and destinations. Using Datahive360 you can collect and prepare data from a myriad of analytics, advertising, CRM and other platforms, effortlessly. Simply configure Datahive360 to connect to your data source or data destination, define which data to process and we’ll take care of the rest.
What are the advantages of using pre-built API connectors?
The advantages of using pre-built API connectors are many.
Significant cost-savings
Pre-built API connectors generate significant cost-savings by eliminating expensive internal development processes and freeing up development resources. There are no costs for developers or opportunity costs for operating with a development capacity shortage. With pre-built connectors, development teams can continue to focus on critical projects, without having to hire new staff. Also, developing API connectors is one thing, but making sure API connectors keep working flawlessly while platforms frequently update their API’s can be a real pain. So the significant cost-savings of pre-built API connectors see to the total cost of ownership.
Shorter time-to-market
Building an API connector can be a long, slow process from coding, to testing, to implementation. Even after an API connector goes live, development resources are still required to fulfil both planned as well as unforeseen maintenance tasks, such as fixing broken connectors, load balancing issues and versioning updates. This leads to building and maintaining API connectors yourself being a very time and capacity consuming process. Pre-built API connectors completely remove the friction points of the building and maintenance process. There is no need for manual coding for API interfaces. No more worrying about having to schedule development capacity to keep API connectors up to date. Everything is already built and ready to use; plug-and-play. As a result, you’ll have your project up and running in a matter of hours or days.
Rapid scalability
Developing API connectors from scratch can hurt a company’s scalability. As new data sources enter the equation, the cumbersome development work associated with building API connectors makes rapid expansion a struggle. Pre-built API connectors, however, enable companies to scale rapidly. The plug-and-play principle allows you to leverage the value of your data in just a few clicks. At Datahive we even offer to develop pre-built connectors on demand, in a condensed time frame, so you can scale up data sources without delay.
No maintenance required
Companies developing API connectors in-house often also have to maintain those connectors inhouse. This means tracking API changes, fixing bugs and freeing up development resources fast whenever there is a need to update an API connector. This round-the-clock maintenance demands significant time and resources, even after the initial building of an API connector is complete. And if the in-house team can’t fix an issue, data quality and even digital marketing performance as a whole can suffer indefinitely. Datahive offers pre-built API connectors and manages all maintenance tasks. All Datahive360 data connectors are automatically updated when an API is modified. If a connector breaks, we’re is responsible for the fix. This leads to less down time, and more time spent on important non-maintenance tasks.
Strategic nimbleness
Developing API connectors is a high-investment process rather than a one-off project. It requires dedication and a significant amount of time and energy. This inevitably makes companies less numble and less capable of quickly responding to emerging opportunities. Companies that self-build connectors cannot quickly launch campaigns, or add in new data sources at the last minute. A sudden shift in strategy, or an opportunity that’s too good to miss, could become impossible to capitalize on. Conversely, pre-built data connectors are designed for strategic nimbleness. You can can add or remove data sources almost instantly. This gives you and your company the flexibility to respond to emerging marketing opportunities and challenges as they happen. A big new account, a last minute campaign, and countless other emerging initiatives are only opportunities if the tech infrastructure is there when it needs to be.

Datahive360 comes with plug-and-play data connectors for virtually any analytics, advertising, CRM and other data source. To further customize Datahive360 as your data management solution, simply follow the step-by-step instructions to build your queries and collect and process your data the way you want to. Effortlessly and all without coding.
Can I still access or customize queries, despite the zero-code approach?
Yes, Datahive360 was built as a zero-code platform, but you can still access and customize every query created by the platform. For your convenience, we even provide a code-editor in the Datahive360 interface. This way Datahive360 does not only allow marketers and other less technically skilled users to create the most sophisticated queries effortlessly, but also enables developers and security specialists to audit and – if so desired – customize queries. How does Datahive go about "Fair Use" of data?
The Datahive “Fair Use” policy applies to both the data retrieval process through the use of data connectors as to the storage and querying of data in the Datahive360 default storage location. This means that in theory, Datahive can take preventive measures to make sure our services continue to work as planned in the event of an acount or data connector consuming too many resources which, as a result, negatively impacts the performance of that and/or other accounts. But rest assured; we’ve set the bar high. However, if we feel your account is pushing the boundaries of what can be considered “fair use” we will notify you promptly to discuss preventive measures in consultation. Such preventive measure may include but are not limited to taking additional load balancing measures, limiting the amount of data that can be retrieved in a single action or making changes to the data storage destination.
Please note that our high-end subscription plans also offer the option to store your data in a custom data storage location under management by your own organisation. Please refer to our subscription plans and opportunities to upgrade your account for more details.
How to downgrade a paid subscription plan?
You can downgrade a subscription to a Datahive360 license at any time from your account and subscription settings.
However, changes to your license type and fee will be effective per the first day of the new subscription term. When entering a new subscription term, your subscription type and fee are adjusted in accordance with your downgrade request. E.g. if you’re on a Datahive360 X license on a monthly subscription of which the current term ends January 31st, a downgrade request made before January 31st will have an effective date of February 1st. If you’re currently on an annual subscription of which the current term ends on May 31st, a downgrade request made in January of that year will have an effective date of June 1st.
Please note that if your subscription term is 1 or 2 years and you’re on a custom monthly billing cycle, the initial subscription term determines the effective date of any consequtive subscription term.

Data Storage & Security
Where is data stored by Datahive360?
By default Datahive360 uses BigQuery, the Cloud Data Warehouse solution from Google. Google BigQuery is a serverless, highly scalable, and cost-effective multicloud data warehouse designed for business agility. For purposes of GDPR-compliancy the dataset geographical location is set to The Netherlands by default (europe-west4). When loading data, querying data, or exporting data, BigQuery determines the location to run the job based on the datasets referenced in the request. For example, if a query references a table in a dataset stored in the europe-west4 region, the query job will run in that region. For Datahive360 no dataset locations other than europe-west4 are used.
Datahive360 also supports the use of a custom data storage location in high-end license types and customized licenses. This can be either a self-managed BigQuery data warehouse, or any other cloud storage service. Under such circumstances all data processing by Datahive360 will still take place in the default data location as stated above. However, the location where your data is stored after processing is set to the custom data storage location as defined by you in your account settings.
Please note that while Datahive is solely responsible for all data processing taking place on our platform, the responsibility for managing data ‘at rest’ lies solely with you when using a custom data storage location. Therefore, if you use or wish to use a custom data storage location, we strongly recommend reviewing your data storage location settings and defining the proper settings in a data management plan in accordance with privacy legislation.
How is data stored by Datahive360?
The data collected by Datahive360 is stored in both the raw format as provided by the API of the platform or service you’re connecting with, as well as in a structured or unified format. When collecting data through the API connector configured for a data source, the data is initially stored in the raw format, “as is”. Once all of the data has been retrieved, the data unification process automatically structures and unifies the data following the logic defined in your business model. The structured, unified data is then stored in a seperate database table. This means you’ll always have access to both the raw as well as the structured data.
There are several benefits to this way of data processing and storage. First of all, it means that you can use Datahive360 as a data warehouse or data lake, or use the data in Datahive360 to fuel your existing data warehouse or data lake. Second, having access to unified, business-ready data in a seperate database table means querying your dataset is easier and data will load much faster. This is especially noticable when using unified data in a dashboard or report with custom or otherwise complex metrics and KPI’s. Since you’re able to define those metrics and KPI’s as part of your data model, the data is already available in your database table. This means that a data visualization tool or other type of application processing your data no longer has to calculate metrics and KPI’s before being able to show or use them. As a result, dashboards and reports will load instantly and all logic and intelligence with regard to custom metrics can be managed from a single source of truth. Effortlessly and all witthout coding.
What data is available when using an API data connector?
When using a prebuilt API data connector to collect data from a data source, there are no limitations with regard to what data is available. As long as the data has been made available through the API provided by the platform or service, Datahive360 enables you to select and collect that data without any restrictions from our end. This applies to both the one-off data retrieval process for collecting historic data, as well as the automated data collection with the update frequency as set when configuring your data connector.
Please note that individual platforms and services can have different restrictions with regard to the availability of data. Some platforms may restrict collecting historic data from before a certain data or period. As a result, you might not be able to collect data older than X months. It is therefore recommended to collect as much historic data as might be relevant for future use when setting up your initial, one-off data collection. From that point onward, all of your historic data wil remain accessible through Datahive360. Other platforms are known for frequently updating even historic data within a certain time frame. This may result in data quality issues when left unattended. Fortunately, Datahive360 has built-in intelligence to automatically update historic data to make sure your data quality is as high as it possibly can be.
What happens to my data if I cancel my subscription?
If you cancel your subscription, the following measures will be taken by Datahive:
- Data collection will be paused: this means your data models and connectors will stop working and no longer collect new data. This may cause reports and dashboards to show incomplete data. Other functionality using data processed by Datahive360 may be affected in other ways.
- If you’re using our custom audience connectors, target audience segments will not be updated using the latest data from your CRM or other data source anymore.
- You will lose access to our free dashboard templates designed for Google Data Studio. Any dashboards already installed in your Google Data Studio environment will remain available.
- You will lose all your data stored with Datahive360 permanently 90 days after the effective end date of your subscription.
If you wish to create a backup of the data residing in your account, we strongly recommend doing this before the effective end date of the subscription you wish to cancel.
